.NEARLY 50 YEARS have passed since Morocco claimed supreme power over Western side Sahara, a cut of property that goes for 900km along the Atlantic coast to the nation’s south. The Polisario Front– a resistance group supported by Algeria, Morocco’s long-lived competitor, and also standing for the region’s native population, the Sahrawi– is actually still fighting for control. In 2020 a 29-year ceasefire broke down.
On July 30th France called Morocco’s plan for Western Sahara the “simply basis” to handle the dispute. Algeria withdrew its own emissary to France in feedback.
